Overview (resum en anglès):
This project presents the study, design, and implementation of ground effect fans in a Formula Student vehicle, in collaboration with the BCN eMotorSport team. The primary objective is to enhance the aerodynamic performance of the vehicle by using fans to increase ground adhesion, thereby optimizing its on-track behavior and competitiveness in races.
To carry out this project, the code developed by the BCN eMotorSport team using OpenFoam software, a powerful computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation tool, was employed. The project's methodology includes several phases, starting with a thorough investigation of ground effect fans and their applications in motorsport. Additionally, an internet search was conducted to identify the fan that best suited the specific requirements of the project.
Once the appropriate fan was selected, simulations were carried out using the supercomputer access provided by the Consorci de Serveis Universitaris de Catalunya (CSUC) to evaluate its impact on the vehicle's aerodynamics. These simulations considered various factors, such as airspeed, pressure, and aerodynamic load distribution, ensuring that the fan integration significantly improved the vehicle's performance.
The simulation results indicated a notable increase in aerodynamic load, which potentially translates to better performance under competitive conditions. This study contributes to the advancement of aerodynamic techniques applied in Formula Student vehicles, providing a solid foundation for future research and development in this field.
